The National educational policy was framed in 1986 and was modified in 1992 . Since 1992 it's been more than 3 decades to bring a modification. Recently the NEW EDUCATION POLICY 2020 (NEP 2020) was announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development soon to be called the Ministry of Education. The policy is aimed at transforming the Indian education system to meet the needs of the 21st Century. Changes in schooling system The major changes in schooling system are as follows ✓ Emphasis on mother or regional language till class 5 ✓ New structure will be 5+3+3+4 c orresponds to the age ranges of 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years, respectively. The NEP further adds that the 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 design consists of “the Foundational (3 years of preschool + Grades 1-2), Preparatory (Grades 3-5), Middle (Grades 6-8), and High school (Grades 9-12 in two phases, i.e. 9 and 10 in the first and 11 and 12 in the second) stages respectively ✓ From 6th standard onwards vocational courses
